The Personal Identification Verification (PIV) credential is designed to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect personal privacy by establishing a mandatory, government-wide standard for secure and reliable forms of identification.
Along with this process are the following requirements:
- All personnel issued a PIV Card/Credential must have a favorably adjudicated background investigation, including an FBI fingerprint check.
- All personnel must be "identity-proofed," that is, they must present two (2) forms of acceptable identification at their enrollment appointment.
