The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees of covered employers to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage under the same terms and conditions as if the employee had not taken leave.
Most Federal employees are covered by Title II of the Family and Medical Leave Act. Title II of FMLA is administered by OPM and covers most civilian Federal employees. The Title II FMLA statutory provisions are codified in subchapter V of chapter 63 of title 5 of the United States Code (see 5 U.S.C. 6381-6387). OPM’s FMLA regulations are codified at 5 CFR part 630, subpart L.
