PIV Card Renewal (PIV Card Expiration)

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some agencies require prior approval before arriving at their sites or entering their buildings. GSA Dedicated Stations are dedicated to GSA personnel only. If you are not GSA personnel, please do not schedule an appointment at a GSA Dedicated Station.

There is a mandatory five year renewal of the PIV card set for expiration beginning in 2013 and beyond. Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Publication 201-2 require renewal and replacement of the physical PIV card every five (5) years. The following documents linked below will provide key information that will assist you with the HSPD-12 renewal process.

Mandatory replacement of the physical PIV card should not be confused with the separate mandatory requirement to update the cards embedded chip certificates every three (3) years, which is known as “Certificate Update”.
